National Pet Preparedness Month

June is National Pet Preparedness Month! Is Your Pet Ready for an Emergency?

June marks National Pet Preparedness Month - a reminder for all of us to include our pets and livestock in emergency planning. Whether it’s wildfires, floods, or earthquakes, disasters can strike with little warning. Preparing now can help keep your pets safe when it matters most. Evacuations can happen quickly, and having a plan for your pets is just as important as having one for your family.

3 Simple Ways to Prepare:

  1. Create a Go Bag for Your Pet: Download our full checklist to build your pet’s emergency kit.

  2. Make a Plan: Know where you’ll go in case of evacuation and whether those places accept pets. Check out local lodging as well as rentals like airbnb and VRBO, which often offer discounts during disasters. Alternatively, arrange with friends or family ahead of time and include them in your planning.

  3. ID & Microchip: Make sure your pets wear collars with up-to-date tags and are microchipped in case you get separated. Microchips are around $45-$55 at most vet clinics. Need a collar or ID tag for your pet? Reach out to WAAG and we may be able to provide one!
